Temporary Suspension of Postal Services
to the United States

Last updated: Tuesday, 26 August 2025 (AEST)

What’s changed
Australia Post has temporarily suspended commercial postal parcel services to the United States effective Tuesday, 26 August 2025, until further notice. This follows recently announced changes to U.S. import tariff rules.

This action aligns with steps taken by multiple postal operators internationally.

New U.S. tariff rules (effective Friday, 29 August 2025 U.S. time)
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has advised that duties and taxes will be collected on goods prior to entering the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Practically, this means duties must be paid by the customer before we can send any eligible parcel/shipment. We’ll share the exact process for pre-payment as soon as Australia Post finalises the implementation with USPS/CBP and partners.

What this means for your order

  • Existing U.S. orders: We will contact affected customers by email and offer a choice to wait a few days while this resolves or receive an immediate refund.

  • New U.S. orders: We’ve paused parcel posting for U.S. destinations until Australia Post lifts the suspension or provides a compliant pathway.

  • Letters/documents (no commercial value): Continue as normal.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience this causes. We’re working closely with Australia Post to resolve this as quickly as possible and will update this notice as soon as we have more information.
